FRAMINGHAM -- Longtime town government critic Harold Wolfe has filed an assault and battery complaint against Deputy Police Chief Ken Ferguson, after Wolfe said Ferguson grabbed his wrist before a February hearing at Framingham District Court.

The charge is scheduled to go before a court clerk this morning at 9.

Wolfe said Ferguson grabbed his wrist entering the February hearing for an unrelated complaint of assault and battery filed by resident Joe Rizoli against the Rev. Joseph Pranzo, pastor of St. Tarcisius Church. The charge against Pranzo was later denied by the court clerk.

Wolfe said Ferguson stopped him to ask if he had any business in the court room, and when Wolfe said he was a witness to the matter, Ferguson let him go inside.

Ferguson declined to comment on Wolfe's accusation.

Wolfe was convicted in May 2008 of striking Framingham Police Officer Greg Reardon. Wolfe was sentenced to a year of unsupervised probation and was fined $800 fine.

Wolfe said his charge against Ferguson is not retribution, and that he learned "what assault is" because of his experience in that case.

"Before Reardon ... I would never have thought this sort of touch was assault and battery," Wolfe said. "But apparently it is."
