FRAMINGHAM - A rookie Framingham cop suffered minor injuries after she crashed her cruiser into a building on Sunday as she was speeding to a 911 call, police said.

Officer Elizabeth Morrison was taken to MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham after the 5:50 a.m. crash on Second Street, police spokeswoman Lt. Patricia Grigas said on Monday.

Morrison was one of several officers heading to Beaver Terrace Circle on a call about 10 to 20 people fighting.

"The cruiser was driving on Waverly Street and it went to take a right turn onto Second Street and it took the corner too wide," Grigas said.

The cruiser crashed into 2 Second St., American Discount Roofing. The cruiser crashed into a wooden porch and the foundation. Grigas said the building sustained no structural damage, but the police cruiser is totaled.

Morrison suffered several bumps and bruises and a cut lip from the airbag being deployed. She was treated and released from the hospital, Grigas said.

It was the first on-duty crash for Morrison, who joined the police department in February, 2017. Grigas said the crash is still under investigation, but it appears to be no more than an accident.

"It appears she took the corner too fast," Grigas said.

Several other officers did go to the reported fight and found a group of people in the street. They dispersed the crowd and did not charge anyone.
